Anyhow, NaNo is officially less than two weeks away! Can you believe it? I'd like to not be able to, but alas, I can. It always seems to sneak up on me; even my very first year, it was 31 October before I discovered it and signed up for the madness. This year I'm slightly more prepared-- at least I know it exists.
This year will be my first foray into fantasy. Well, sort of. I'll be doing historical fiction, as usual, but with a fantasy tinge. Spirits, ghosts, mythology, folklore. It's set on Lundy Island (in the Bristol Channel), a place that was just pleading to me. It has so much magic surrounding it, I have to play into that aspect. I have one character developed-- Meraud, a sixteen-year-old Cornish girl that swears she's not as different as people make her out to be-- and one character eluding me with all his might-- Kit, a roguish fellow with secrets enough to feel at home on the Island, even though the Island itself isn't feeling the same way. Other than that, though... there's nothing. No plot. I have a few vague ideas, but nothing to carry me for 50k.
But if I did, what fun would that be?
